In the rainy seasons, your windshield wipers get more use than any other added feature of your vehicle. They are the primary safety measure that allows you to get to work or school in situations that would otherwise have poor visibility, such as rain or light hail storm. Knowing this, picking the right windshield wiper for windshield wiper replacement, and having the ability to change your windshield washer fluid, is extremely important.
Different Types of Windshield Wiper Replacement Blades
There are a plethora of different windshield wiper brands on the market. However, brands aside, there are also over half a dozen or more types of windshield wiper blades as well. The most common of these types is the silicone wiper. Silicone is a durable rubber that is affected very little by the elements. These types of wipers are used on most types of mass production vehicles available on today’s market. Because of the durability of silicone, these wipers tend to have the longest warranty and replacement guarantee—sometimes as much as a lifetime of free replacement blades. Another type of windshield wiper replacement blade is the contour blade. Contour blades are made to fit the shape of your car’s windshield. This assures that the blades are able to remove all water from the windshield. Many car manufacturers use contoured blades for their production vehicles. The easiest way to check if your blades are contoured is by looking to see how the fit against your windshield. If the tips point off in a straight line, creating in angle, then your wipers are not contoured. If they hug tight to the windshield, then they are contoured.
Choosing Windshield Wiper Replacements
There are a few types of specialty wipers we have yet to mention, such as heated wipers and snow wipers, but these are much different than traditional wipers, and are only necessary depending upon the conditions in the area you live in. In most cases, traditional silicone contoured wipers are the best bet for your vehicle. However, if you are interested in heated wipers, or winter wipers, or even Teflon wipers, it is best that you do a little research before buying. While most wipers are compatible with most cars, there are different disadvantages of certain types of windshield wiper replacements. For instance, Teflon wipers, while having a longer than average lifespan, tend to “jump” more on the windshield due to the special coating. For the most part, however, choosing the right windshield wiper replacements is fairly easy. If you aren’t certain what kind you should buy, ask a worker at your local automotive store.
Windshield Washer Fluid
Once you’ve picked out the right windshield wiper replacements, you will want to replace your windshield washer fluid. Doing this is very easy and only takes a matter of seconds. Simply start by popping the hood of your car. Then look for the clear plastic fluid container labeled with a windshield wiper. Check the level of your fluids (there will be lines indicating a full container and a low container). Pour in your windshield washer fluid until the fluid level reaches the full line, and you’re good to go.
